What is so wrong about being attracted to multiple Asian girls, anyways?

"When you approach an Asian woman and do the don't's, it becomes very obvious that your interest is in her ethnicity and what she represents, not her as an individual...All you can know about her is the way she dresses herself or her demeanor, but even then you can't assume you know everything about her. If you'd actually like to get to know her better, start a conversation. And let's get this straight: knowing what part of Asia her parents are from isn't going to tell you everything you need to know (for a positive relationship) about her."

The Elephant in the Room

The rare dialogue between women from Congo began with fire.  In March 2011, controversy broke out at the screening of documentary, Pushing The Elephant. Featured activist, Banyamulenge Tutsi Rose Mapendo considered herself Congolese. The other women did not.

"In a hushed panicked voice, I closed my eyes, and whispered quickly, “Please give them peace.  Let them understand each other.  Please give them peace.  Let them understand each other.  Please give them peace…”  At the U.N.‘s 55th Commission on the Status of Women, multilingual malice shot through the room.  I could not understand anything.  My head was spinning.  Rose was crying. The directors had stiff shoulders.  Women against woman.  One shouted in the microphone letting spit shower the metal piece."

Being a freelance filmmaker is not easy. We aspire to be directors, producers, cinematographers, editors, production designers, etc. But how do we get there?

"Take this time interning to learn where you want to go and how to get there.  Understand the line of command, so eventually, you can start applying for jobs one step ahead of your previous ones.  This does not move linearly though.  I have been a production designer on a low budget and then a Prop PA on a much higher budget film after.  It depends on the quality of the project, which includes budget, professionalism, and the film’s potential."

Why You Should Think of Networking as Making Friends

Petunia, staring Thora Birch, Christine Lahti, Brittany Snow, Eddie Kaye Thomas, Michael Urie, and Tobias Segal, was a "networking snowball." I was the first to be referred and the production just kept asking for more and more interns... so I brought on the people I knew who deserved the opportunity and could get the job done.  Yes, I call them friends.  And yes, we all went to college together.

"I used to be nervous about networking.  I felt like it required meeting important people and somehow convincing them to use or hire me.  It felt awkward and manipulative.  The NY Creative Intern opening kickoff event last year featured a passionate DJ, Phi Pham.  He said something along the lines of:  'Don’t think of it as networking, think of it as making friends...'"
